Description

My previous attempt with this meme almost two years ago has honestly gotten relatively outdated for me, and I felt like doing a new one just for the heck of it.

Before we begin, let me just say that this are my opinions. If you don't agree with me, it's fine, just please be respectful and I'll respect you too.

I'm very sure this meme will be very controversial regarding my choices...

Now, I'll admit I occasionally consider myself a shipper, there's some couples I find to be cute in fiction or I occasionally joke-ship for fun. But I feel pairings should work in a certain way in canon. I hate seeing a couple being shoved in my face, and/or seeing little to no development in it for me to care. At times, I even feel certain characters don't need a love interest either. To me, the stories and characters come first, and I feel a lot of pairings on this list go against that for pandering/lazy purposes.

10. Kevin x Nazz from Ed, Edd, n' Eddy. This one is pretty low for the main reason being I'm not really into the EEnE fandom, so I don't focus on it much. I just don't think they deserve each other, Kevin is a generic bully who I think has more love for his bike than Nazz, and I don't particularly get why Nazz likes him. Granted, in the movie, she seems fed up with him, so I don't think this pairing will go anywhere...

9. Vegeta x Bulma from Dragon Ball Z. Again, a little low since I'm not in the DB fandom, but this is one pairing that just bothers me. There's no development, they just became canon all of a sudden. The main reason VxB is a thing at all is so Trunks can exist. I also feel really bad for Yamcha since he pretty much ends up forever alone despite his wish to have a girlfriend, and the way the fandom treats him. And...I just can't see Vegeta as the type who would settle down, I don't think he would desire romance. :hmm:

8. Flash Sentry x Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. ...Oh boy. What can I say? I find FlashLight to be so...so cliche and generic I can't get into it. I've seen this sooo many times already in other media, especially in multiple chick flick movies (that are not my cup of tea to begin with). Not to mention Flash himself isn't very interesting to me either. As for Twilight, people find her blushy mannerisms cute but the fact she's acting like that over a person we barely know anything about, I just can't really sympathize with her feelings. This pairing feels too awkward in that puppy love way that I really can't see this being a long-term relationship.

7. Ash x Serena from Pokemon. Now there are a few pairings involving Ash I admit to liking, but honestly, I don't think they should be canon. Not only is Ash clearly not ready and too young for romance, it would just get in the way of what Pokemon is about. However, I think any romantic hints should be very downplayed, you can have your cute little scenes of PokeShipping, AdvanceShipping, PearlShipping, NegaiShipping, etc. to enjoy without losing too much focus. In a way, less is more. However, AmourShipping seems desperate to break that chain. Serena has a very obvious crush on Ash over something mundane that happened years ago, and...I'm a little creeped out. It doesn't help that I feel Serena's crush on Ash defines her character way more than it needed to...And the fanbase for this pairing bothers me for some reason, it seems they only like this pairing just because of Serena's feelings despite that Ash only sees her as a friend because he's oblivious. Okay, I'm sure there's a fair amount of good fans of this pairing, but that's just how I feel on why people support AmourShipping. Their pairing name gets under my skin too, I mean, AmourShipping, as in LoveShipping? :| (Blank Stare) Sheesh, isn't that a little egotistical?

6. Death the Kid x Crona from Soul Eater. I...never understood the hype for this ship. I think in a way it's popularity is close to Soul x Maka, which had good reason for it's popularity unlike the former. They had little interaction, and I feel as a couple they would be a horrible mess together because of Crona's anxiety and Kid's OCD, they'd be depressed or worse. :o But the only reasons I could come up as to why people like Kid x Crona is because of how they look together (cuteness doesn't justify a pairing for me) and the fact their Japanese VAs voiced Tamaki and Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club (who became a couple by the way, but voice acting doesn't justify it either). Unfortunately, I can't think of anything else that makes sense.

5. Naruto x Hinata from Naruto. This one is probably going to get me on a lot of people's bad sides, but let me explain. I used to have a sort of okay opinion on NaruHina, it wasn't really something I shipped, but it had a certain little charm I guess. It wasn't until I found out about the Naruto ending did I gradually lose my fondness for NH. Looking back at all the times Naruto and Hinata interacted, it doesn't add up, they barely had much time to know each other, and whenever Hinata's feelings for Naruto are shown, he's shown no implication that he feels the same way. Then with The Last, he just out of the blue likes her. I'm infuriated what they did to this pairing and the characters involved in order to make it canon (Naruto seems to find a girl he didn't acknowledge that much to be more important than his own teammates, and Hinata becoming pairing fodder and being placed on a high pedestal while other secondary characters aren't able to get that luxury). I don't care if whether or not Kishimoto intended this to be endgame from the beginning, I do not find this sloppy development okay and how the Last adds in things that were never in the manga in the first place in order to justify NH in a lazy way.

4. Harry x Ginny from Harry Potter. In a way, this is roughly similar to how I feel on NaruHina, but I never did like it from the beginning. Ginny barely knew Harry himself, and spent the majority of the series fawning over him while Harry just saw her as Ron's little sister. Though around the fifth or sixth book, Ginny's character changed in a way I found a little uncomfortable. All of a sudden, she's this extremely talented popular girl with a more confident personality she suddenly obtained. But the way the narrative treats her bothers me to no end, I feel Ginny is a little too...nasty in some ways and she never seemed to suffer a consequence when she did something wrong or cruel. But onto the pairing itself, Harry never acknowledged until he out of nowhere decides that he likes her now in the sixth year. This was explained a little better in the books compared to the movie though, but I still find the execution off-putting.

3. Duncan x Gwen from Total Drama. I wasn't entirely sure if this would still make the list, and I probably should've lowered it considering as a pairing they aren't canon anymore, but I put it here for one big reason that bothers me. In a way, I always felt that DxG was implying that cheating on someone (y'know, Duncan, we all know the details) and not taking any blame (Gwen in a sense never really owned up to admitting for what she was a part of, even if she didn't mean it) is okay. Now, I'm not saying what Courtney did (being overly-controlling) was okay either, but I personally think no one deserves to be cheated on. I know it's probably not the worst feeling ever, but I still find it nasty and meanspirited and just despressing. Besides that, I just can't see Duncan and Gwen as a couple, they seem a little too similar in interests and better off as friends I think...

2. Mako x Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra. My gripe with Makorra is very similar to my problems with Gwuncan, because I also feel Makorra enforces cheating on someone as being acceptable. But in a sense, it's worse because it's very clear these are characters we're supposed to like, and it makes both Mako and Korra look like complete jerks. We also have Asami, whose heartbroken over this, and she honestly didn't do anything wrong (we even have poor Bolin being sad since he also liked Korra). And when to comes to being a couple, I feel like the narrative is being manipulative with making people like Makorra. I can't, it's so contrived and meanspirited... I'm just glad they actually went a different direction and broke up, it's for the best.

1. Sasuke x Sakura from Naruto. Now, I never liked SasuSaku, it always felt like a onesided shallow crush to me, and I still think so. This was always the biggest issue I had with Sakura despite me liking her, because I felt her crush on Sasuke made her do the most dumb decisions. And with the Naruto ending, this just feels like such a slap in the face for her development as she regresses back to being his fangirl. She doesn't understand him, and he doesn't really like her that much to begin with (If anything, Sasuke and Naruto had more chemistry and knew each other enough to make sense, or I think he could be asexual), especially since he tried to kill her multiple times when he was a criminal. Just...gah, this feels like the anime equivalent of Edward/Bella...:x

My thoughts:

10. Haven't seen the show.

9. Very incompatible, don't get why this became canon.

8. Meh.

7. I'm neutral on this one.

6. Another show I haven't seen.

5. Another pairing I'm neutral on.

4. Meh. Very bland and forced, did not need to happen. Though there are worse pairings(like Drarry).

3. See what I put for 6 and 10.

2. Very, very toxic and glad they ended it when they did.

  1. Even more toxic and I still seethe over the fact that this became endgame.
